When you ready to have your garments made, you will come across the term “tech pack” sooner or later.
But what exactly is a tech pack and why do you need one?
Not all starting designers or fashion brands are familiar with the manufacturing process. It takes more than just handing over a sketch to the manufacturer to get your garments made. You need to give them something more to work with.
This “something more” is described in a document known as a tech pack.
A tech pack (short for technical package) is a document that tells people what your garment looks like and how it should be made.
It stores all the details about your design in one place and it is the single source of all relevant info.

A tech pack is used to communicate with all the different parties during the design and manufacturing process to make sure that in the end you get exactly what you had in mind.
It also serves as a reference document for you, as it stores the history of your design. This way, you can easily keep track of what was changed and why, which can be very helpful for your future designs.

Lots of people are involved during the development and production phases and it is critical that everyone is on the same page.
Good technical documentation is a must to keep things running smoothly.
A professional tech pack:
Everyone needs to know exactly what your garment should look like and how it should be made. Think fabrics, trims, pockets, buttons, stitches – all that stuff.
If they don’t, you may not get what you want.
and you’ll have to make multiple samples or even worse, redo the whole production.
You can imagine how much time, money and headaches that will cost you…
Skipping the tech pack might save you some money in the beginning, but trust me, investing in one will save you more in the long run.
